A tool to access unreachable sites inside the Archaeological Park of Ostia Antica in Rome

Today's article comes from the journal of Conservation Science in Cultural Heritage. The authors are Gugliermetti et al., from the University of Rome. In this paper a team of archeologists harness Python, MATLAB, the Blender engine, MeshLab and a bunch of advanced photography techniques to create a near perfect 3D model of an ancient ruin. It's interesting to see cutting edge processes applied to something so old. Let's dive in:
