Adapting a Large-Scale Transformer Model to Decode Chicken Vocalizations: A Non-Invasive AI Approach to Poultry Welfare

Today's article comes from the journal of AI. The authors are Neethirajan et al., from Dalhousie University, in Canada. In this paper they've taken a speech recognition model (OpenAI's Whisper), and used it to "listen" to chickens. Why? So they can decode patterns in their vocalizations to reveal whether they're stressed, calm, excited, or unwell.
