Today's article comes from the journal of Systems and Soft Computing. The authors are Tongbram et al., from the National Institute of Technology Manipur, in India. In this paper they have built a segmentation framework specifically for monochromatic images. If it works, it should allow them to feed in a black-and-white photo, and automatically separate out the regions, recover the boundaries, and distinguish structures in the image without relying on color cues.
